A Tale of 3 Color Controls

Comparing the UI for three color controls ...

"A few days ago, I penned an entry titled Aperture 1.5 Color Control. In it, I described how the new color control in Aperture 1.5 was the sleeper hit for me. It's easy to use, effective, and immediately essential. Now, interestingly, there's nothing really new about Aperture's new Color control. Photoshop has had a control that does the same thing for a while. And of course Lightroom sports the same kind of adjustments as well. So, I wondered, why didn't I pay much attention to the kinds of adjustments that this control makes possible? Why wasn't I clamoring for this before?

I've used the Photoshop equivalents before, but I always used it in a very limited way and infrequently. Given how useful these adjustments are, I'm now surprised by that. So, I went back to Photoshop and found the closest comparison: The Hue/Saturation adjustment layer control. It looks like this:"    (Continued via James Duncan Davidson:)    [Usability Resources]
