The Prism of User Experience Design

A metaphorical definition of UX ...

"The most comprehensive model of User Experience Design is metaphorically visualized as the prism.

It encompasses all types of products.

The first triangle of the prism is formed by the User, Design and Technology. These are the three constants of any product creation process. It is the triangle of ‘Product Creation’ (design + development).

The second triangle of the prism is formed by the human Mind, Body and the Environment. It is the triangle of ‘Influencing Factors’ which can direct the entire product creation process. It involves understanding of human psychology (behavioral and cognitive), brain science and human physiology, ergonomics and social sciences. The environment involves understanding of social, cultural, economic, political and geographic dimensions.

The width of this prism is like the slice of time, the present.

It is the culminating point of human and technological evolution.

If you think about the past for reasoning the human behavior, it is the world of evolution, history and anthropology.

An idea is like the ray of light.

Each idea must refract upon the six constants namely user, design, technology and mind, body, environment.

What results out of this refraction is the spectrum of user experience!"    (Continued via Information Design, Journal of HCI Vistas)    [Usability Resources]
